Mike and I couldn't get anyone else to join us in our attempt, so we borrowed the truck and headed up Bachelor Loop very early in the morning. Although it was September 2, there was a covering of ice on the rocks in the parking area. As you can see from our attire, it was very cold in the valley. The first leg of the hike was relatively difficult, but as we crested the first ridge and viewed San Luis for the first time, we began to feel the excitement. Also, we caught up with the sun and a cloudless sky.
